Weber State’s 2018 softball season is now over.

The Wildcats fell 7-5 to Nevada in an elimination game of the National Invitational Softball Tournament regional pod Thursday in Las Vegas.

Nevada hit Kirtlyn Bohling for five runs in 3 1/3 innings, including a four-run third inning that gave the Wolf Pack a 4-0 lead.

Weber State answered in the bottom of the third, however. Molly Horne singled to score Takesha Saltern, Rae Gall doubled to score Ashlyn Visser and Landi Hawker, and Courtney Pestka hit a sacrifice fly to score Horne and tie the game 4-4.

But Nevada retook the lead in the fourth on a pair of singles and a groundout. After a four-pitch walk, the senior Bohling was pulled for Tatiana Su’esu’e, who pitched out of the inning.

Before WSU could answer, Nevada put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh when Alyssa Mendez tagged Su’esu’e for a two-run homer.

Saltern doubled in the bottom of the seventh and came across on a Visser single, but that was as close as it got. Saltern finished the game 3 for 3 from the plate.

Nevada advanced to play Weber State after eliminating Utah Valley 7-5 in Thursday’s first game.

After a seven-game conference win streak, Weber State dropped seven of its last 10 games to end the 2018 season with a 28-26 record.
